So Thursday I went out with a few of the American counselors to Konak Pier and Alsancak. They're about a half hour bus ride from space camp. We had to take a dolmuş to the bus stop and then a bus to Konak. Once there we got bus cards so we should be good for a while (buses are really pretty cheap to take here especially as a student). Then we started walking along the sea. It's gorgeous! There are so many outdoor restaurants and people selling mussels? and eriks which are my new favorite fruit. We kept walking along. We went into a bar and the other girls drank raki. We continued walking along. We got to the square right before Ataturk's house and found a pizza place there so we stopped and had pizza. We walked down a pedestrian only street which has two bar streets off of it so we stopped for hookah and then we stopped in another bar because the other girls wanted efes. We headed home after this. On the bus the girls got yelled at because they put their feet on the seats in front of them. I had to tell them to take their feet off while this guy yelled at them in turkish lol
Friday we had a city tour. We went to a bead village which was really cool. It was just a ton of evil eye beads. We went to Kadifekale which is a castle on the hill. It had the most amazing view! Then we went to the first elevator in Izmir which was really cool. Then we went to Konak and saw a really cool mosque and clock tower that was given to turkey by Germany. We went to a bazaar where I got some apple tea. Then we just walked around Alsancak. It's a really cute place.
Anne and I went to Tansaş which is a grocery store about a 15 minute walk or 3 minute dolmuş ride so we decided to walk. Well turns out that there really is no sidewalk or any place to walk whatsoever and we nearly died a few times lol Especially walking back when it was dark.
Today we go to Ephesus. It should be really fun!
